President Joanne Gard Marshall, FMLA presents MLA's 2004 Distinguished Public Service Award in Washington, DC, December 3, 2004.

Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA) was chosen to receive the award for his strong support of the National Library of Medicine, and for his exceptional commitment and leadership in securing the recent doubling of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) budget over a five-year period.
