Health sciences libraries are in the midst of a major transformation brought on by health care reform, a flood of new information technologies, and evolutionary changes in scholarly publishing. Librarians working in this environment need to rethink the value they bring to their institutions as health information professionals and articulate how that value contributes to the institutional mission. We also need to rethink and expand the roles that we play in our institutions. As members of the Medical Library Association, we can work together to develop and communicate the evidence of our value and to prepare ourselves to fill emerging roles that will help us achieve our vision to be the most visible, valued, and trusted health information experts.
