The web 2.0 plenary webcast, available to MLA members only through June 30, 2008, is now open to the public.
Live Webcast of MLA Plenary Session on Web 2.0 Tools
On Wednesday, May 21, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon (Central Time), the plenary session on “Web 2.0 Tools for Librarians: Description, Demonstration, Discussion, and Debate” will take place at the MLA annual meeting in Chicago. This will be the first plenary session ever to be made available via a live Video Webcast. MLA members not at the meeting will be able to watch the Webcast and participate in it by submitting questions to a panel of Web 2.0 experts. After the meeting, access to the Webcast will be available on the members-only MLANET from Wednesday, May 21, 2008 through June 30, 2008. After that the link will be moved to the public MLANET.
The theme of MLA President Mark Funk’s inaugural speech at last year’s meeting in Philadelphia was “Only Connect.” In this speech Mark described how Web 2.0 applications could improve communication and cooperation and encouraged MLA members to use these tools at their libraries and within the association. The session will feature demonstrations of the principal Web 2.0 tools, suggestions for their use within libraries, as well as a panel discussion in which leading proponents of social networking software explore the present status and possible future directions of Web 2.0.
