Publishers and vendors in growing numbers are making an effort
to make usage statistics available to libraries. This workshop provides
an opportunity to understand how Counting Online Usage Statistics
of Networked Electronic Resources (COUNTER) usage statistics reports
provided by publishers and vendors can be used as a decision-making
tool. The workshop will also present how to manipulate the data
using a spreadsheet, which participants can use for cost-per-use
and return-on-investment analysis. By the end of the class, participants
will be able to download usage statistics reports and understand
COUNTER usage report content, data elements, definitions of these
data elements, format, frequency and methods of delivery, and current
protocols. Participants will also be able to develop a plan to gather
and analyze usage reports in order to assess usage of electronic
collections that will demonstrate their library collections' value.
