Sponsored by UpToDate.

Optional ticketed event. You must register in advance. There will be no onsite registration. A lunch ticket is required to participate in a discussion and costs $42. Register by topic number. Registrations without a topic number will not be processed.

Attend the Chapter Council Presents Chapter Sharing Roundtables for lunch and informal discussions on a variety of topics. Lunch will be a plated meal including salad, entrée, and dessert. Please indicate dietary restrictions on your registration form.

Facilitators and recorders will be at each table to initiate discussion and to document the discussion for posting on the Chapter Council website (www.chapter council.mlanet.org). Facilitators and recorders earn one point toward membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals for completing these activities. If you would like to share your skills and expertise as a facilitator or a recorder, please email Rebecca McKay, rlmckay@library.tamu.edu.

Attention new MLA members: MLA offers one free lunch ticket per topic to new members (MLA member for five years or less) who register via the online registration system. Free tickets are paid through chapter donations and MLA and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. To select a free ticket, choose Chapter Council Presents Sharing Roundtable “free lunch” in the optional ticket section of the online registration form. Select your desired topic from the drop-down box. If your topic is grayed out, this topic has already been taken; however, tickets are still available for purchase.

The free roundtable ticket will be added to your registration and shown on your confirmation letter with a price of zero. When you arrive at the meeting, you will receive a lunch ticket with your selected topic printed on it. At the lunch, you must sit at the table for your designated topic. Each table facilitator will have a roster to check attendance. If your plans change and you cannot attend the lunch, please cancel so that the free ticket will be available for another attendee. See registration instructions for cancellation instructions.

Open Forums (To Date)

Improving Health Information Access in Underserved Communities and Developing Countries: Learning from Each Other

Building on the well-received 2012 International Cooperation Section open forum, “International and National Outreach Programs: Learning from Each Other,” this forum invites people conducting projects that improve health information access throughout the world, especially in underserved communities and developing countries, to share their experiences with and insights into conducting such projects. Projects can be geared toward health professionals, health practitioners and researchers, or users.

The forum will start with a panel of international librarians who will share their project experiences, highlights of the important elements for success, and potential problem areas. An open discussion with the panelists and forum participants will follow the brief presentations. The goal is to build and expand the network of support available for these types of projects for future collaborations, consultation, and assistance. All meeting attendees with experience or interest in this topic are encouraged to attend.

Membership Dynamics

The Membership Committee is asking MLA to both think about and act on questions about who we see as our members. This forum is part of our efforts to engage in this discussion and to grow our membership base. We will share data about our current membership dynamics and trends, discuss rationales for growing our base, implications for current members, and ideas that will help us move forward.

MLA Academy of Teaching Excellence (MATE) Project

The Task Force on MATE is seeking input about ways MLA can support the development and growth of instructors and capture best practices of experienced instructors.
