For this institute, Scholars will learn to apply instructional design principles and practices to transform traditional face-to-face continuing education experiences into richer, more learner-centered online courses. The Institute faculty will emphasize mentored courses and will not focus on self-paced Web instruction or Web tutorials.

During the Institute, faculty will emphasize course organization and logistics, interactivity, facilitative technologies, and effective teaching methods optimized for various learning styles. Scholars will gain techniques for communication with and among students, and will develop timely and appropriate activities to evaluate student progress, and measure student learning, toward continually improving course quality.
