Publications

MLA's publications are the most authoritative sources of specialized knowledge for health information professionals.

  • Journal of the Medical Library Association: MLA's quarterly, peer-reviewed scholarly journal. Available in print and electronically.

  • MLA News: A monthly newsletter that includes news about the profession and the association and practical columns on new ideas and resources. Available in print and electronically to MLA members.

  • MLA-FOCUS: A twice-monthly electronic newsletter for MLA members covering association news, professional opportunities, and current news.

  • Books: MLA books cover topics of interest to anyone who provides health information, authored by experts in the subjects. Order MLA books through MLA's copublishers, Neal-Schuman and ALA Editions. See the MLA Store for a full list of MLA books.

  • Publish with MLA: Submit a proposal or idea for a new book, annotated bibliography, or document collection.

  • BibKits and DocKits: BibKits are selective, annotated bibliographies on specific health sciences information subjects. DocKits are collections of documents from a variety of institutions that illustrate the range of approaches to a particular issue. Order current BibKits and DocKits in both print and e-book versions through the MLA Store. Older BibKits and DocKits are available free to MLA members.

  • Standards and other Publications: Booklets and brochures on important issues that impact the health sciences librarian profession. Many of these resources are available free.

  • Deciphering Medspeak brochures
  • MLA Section and Chapter Newsletters: Most MLA sections and chapters have newsletters with specialized content about their subjects of interest or geographic areas.
  • Marketing and Advertising Information: Information on display advertising, mailing lists, electronic sponsorships, and annual meeting exhibits.

  • MLA Style Manual: Editorial guidelines for all MLA publications.
