MLANET Style Guide

Pre-posting Final Checklist

Content management fro MLANET is distributed among various headquarters departments and staff. New content is often coded outside the IS department and is then provided to IS staff for final review before posting.

Before IS staff post pages to MLANET from the blueline (test) server, the following steps should be completed:

To top of page Content Style and "Web-speak"

  • Spell-check the page
  • Provide page to PUB staff for copyediting
  • If verbiage can be cut without affecting meaning, do so.
  • Make sure page <title> is correct (Medical Library Association: area, page title).

To top of page Design Style and Code Check

  • Make sure proper doc-type exists as first line of code, before <HTML> tag.
  • Make sure proper meta ssi has been added to the page (in header, after </title> tag).
  • Make sure top of page ssi has been consistently applied throughout page ("/ssi/2000/z/z_p1_up.html") according to style guidelines
  • Make sure all links are "site-specific" rather than "document-specific"; if "document-specific" links, modify user's software to correct.
  • Make sure all page design code ssi files are included and that the CSS is attached (include code <LINK REL=STYLESHEET HREF="/ssi/2000/gen2000.css" TYPE="text/css"> just before </head> tag).
  • Make sure ALL graphics have "alt" tags; "new" graphics should be used sparingly and alt should indicate month/year (e.g., "new for March 2001"):
