What Did You Do for National Medical Librarians Month?
“When you need to be right, ask your medical librarian.” That was the theme of this year’s National Medical Librarians Month, a month designed for librarians to promote their services and for all of us recognize the important work done by health sciences librarians.
Here are just a few of the innovative NMLM activities we heard about around the web.
The National Network of Libraries of MedicineN/LM Middle Atlantic Region asked librarians to share stories highlighting a program, partnership, or accomplishment. They are now holding a vote for the best story. The winner will receive a $1500 MAR Professional Development award (wow!). Vote by November 13 at the top of each story’s blog posting.
- Excela Health: Going to the Dogs: Pet Therapy
- Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Hospital: Magnet Recertification Process
- SUNY Buffalo: Collaborative Interprofessional Education Project
NN/LM’s Pacific Northwest Region posted profiles of individual librarians to celebrate. Featured librarians were:
- Meg Brunner (University of Washington Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute)
- Andrea Ball (University of Washington Health Sciences Library)
- Liisa Rogers (Healthwise Research Library)
The John Crerar Library at the University of Chicago created this NMLM reading list.
Visual Dx featured their four medical librarian staff members—who have great headshots, by the way—on Twitter and on their website.
Circulating Now from the National Library of Medicine posted about the Medical Library Assistance Act of 1965, unquestionably one of the most important historical influences on our field.
And, of course, hundreds of librarians planned, presented at, and attended chapter meetings during the month of October, embodying the spirit of National Medical Librarians Month through their commitment to professional growth.
