  [EXTERNAL] 990 form question

  Hi, Matt—

  In my chapter, if a vendor would sponsor some portion of our annual meeting, we would usually put their name in the program and give them special mention at the meeting, etc. So, we would consider it part of the annual meeting revenues (line 2a). We don’t consider it a charitable donation (which we put in line 1f) or Miscellaneous Revenue (line 11).

  I have a question. What is the classification of a vendor sponsorship? For example they pay to sponsor our annual meeting. What is that legally called?

If you are referring to the Accounting Fees on line 11c under Expense Items on the 990 form, this is where you would report whatever fees your chapter paid to for accounting and auditing fees charged by outside firms or individuals during 2023 (for instance, if you paid an accountant to audit your books).

  I don’t know of any accounting fee from MLA. The only fee that our chapter is regularly charged from MLA is the annual insurance.
