This online, on-demand course provides basic, foundational knowledge about health data standards and medical terminologies that support interoperability in health IT systems. This course will help students to understand the big picture of health data standards and how they are used, including relevant National Library of Medicine (NLM) products and services.

This course is an approved elective for the Level I Data Services Specialization.

 

Learning Objectives:

The objectives of this course are for students to be able to:

  • define and explain the function of electronic health records (EHRs), interoperability and health data standards within Health IT systems, and
  • identify the application of the most highly used or influential medical terminologies.
