Aligning the Three Pillars of Effective Instruction: Outcomes, Teaching, and Assessment for Health Sciences Librarians

Aligning the Three Pillars of Effective Instruction: Outcomes, Teaching, and Assessment for Health Sciences Librarians will help you write meaningful, measurable learning outcomes and assess actual student performance.

Great teaching rests on three interconnected pillars: measurable learning outcomes, performance assessment of outcomes, and, of course, teaching that promotes and inspires students to achieve outcomes. Only if these are aligned, can you effectively focus and assess your teaching.

If you are a novice instructor or an experienced instructor eager to refine your teaching, Aligning the Three Pillars of Effective Instruction: Outcomes, Teaching, and Assessment for Health Sciences Librarians will help you write meaningful, measurable learning outcomes and assess actual student performance. You will examine examples of good learning outcomes, learn why it makes sense to assess performance rather than perception, and explore performance assessment measures. There will be time for participants to ask questions about their courses.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the webinar, you will be able to:

  • define assessment concepts and distinguish learning goals from learning outcomes
  • write learning outcomes and prepare teaching activities that align with assessment methods
  • choose appropriate assessment measures for stand-alone and course-integrated instructional contexts
