ClinicalTrials.gov is the openly available federal registry and results database of publicly and privately funded clinical studies conducted in the United States and around the world. ClinicalTrials.gov is a vital resource for researchers, healthcare providers, and health sciences librarians who wish to consult the entire body of evidence on any particular topic. This 1.5 credit training covers the materials in a survey format with polls and exercises.

Learning Objectives
Class Objectives Attendees will

1. Learn about the significance of ClinicalTrials.gov 
2. Search and interpret the results database
3. Be informed about the number of study records with results, and
4. Learn the role of health sciences librarians can play to advocate to clinical researchers the importance of complying with the results submission requirements mandated by federal law.

Agenda for 1.5 hour webinar

10 minutes: Introduction to ClinicalTrials.gov – what is a clinical trial and why ClinicalTrials.gov is a significant resource

25 minutes: Demonstration of ways to search and interpret studies with results on ClinicalTrials.gov

5 minutes: discuss the number of records with results, how to download results

15 minutes: unique position of health science librarians to provide education and to advocate for the results database and submission requirements

25 minutes: Hands-on practice search scenarios

10 minutes: Questions and wrap-u
