CURATED Data for Long-term Preservation and Public Sharing

Take your data management skills beyond common data management practices to another level.

Take your data management skills beyond common data management practices to another level of ensuring long-term preservation and public sharing of health sciences data.

In this webinar, you’ll learn how to critically appraise data collection methods, method documentation, and designation of data types using the CURATED method developed by the Data Curation Network.

You’ll leave with tools and resources for conducting a step-by-step curation and assessment of human subjects data and for applying and balancing FAIR and CARE principles. You will also be able to make recommendations to researchers on practical next-steps in the data sharing process. As part of the learning process, participants will “curate” a dataset together!

This is a required core course for Level II of the Data Services Specialization.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the webinar, you will:

  • Conduct an inventory of a dataset and related documentation
  • Appraise dataset documentation for compliance with FAIR and CARE principles
  • Appraise risk to long-term preservation based on data type and sharing method
  • Appraise risk to long-term preservation based on variables within a dataset
  • Recommend next steps to researchers based on risk associated with the data

Audience

Librarians and new curators who are familiar with responsible and ethical data management practices and seek to advance their skills in appraisal of health sciences data for long-term preservation and public sharing.
