Peer Review and Critical Appraisal of Systematic Review Publications

If you want to peer review systematic reviews, improve your work as a peer reviewer, enhance the quality of reviews you work on, or critically appraise the quality of reviews you read and use, this webinar is for you.

If you want to peer review systematic reviews, improve your work as a peer reviewer, enhance the quality of reviews you work on, or critically appraise the quality of reviews you read and use, this webinar is for you.

Riaz Qureshi, a faculty methodologist with Cochrane Eyes and Vision, highly experienced peer reviewer, and co-author of many reviews, will be your guide. You will gain essential skills in appraising and giving feedback on systematic review methodology and reporting and be able to expand your role as the methodological expert on a review team.

You will learn an easy-to-apply structured approach to evaluating and providing comments on systematic reviews. The heart of the approach is a simple tool developed by Cochrane Eyes and Vision to assess the methodological rigor of systematic reviews. The tool takes important and common aspects of review methods from a number of critical appraisal checklists and condenses them into five key components of a reliable systematic review.

Following a didactic presentation of concepts and ideas, you’ll join in working through a review using the Cochrane approach. You will learn the questions to ask yourself when reading a review so that you can identify key areas for effective feedback to journal editors and authors.

You’ll leave the webinar with skills in using a sound approach to quickly assessing if a published review uses generally reliable methods and is appropriate for guiding practice, giving feedback on reviews, and developing review methodologies.

This webinar is required for Level II of the Systematic Review Services Specialization.
