The new NIH data management and sharing plan requirements go into effect in January 2023. The changes are extensive and affect all NIH-funded research. NIH-funded disciplines will need workshops and consultations on these requirements. This makes 2022 a great year for your library to offer new data services and for you to expand your data services skill set!
In this webinar, you’ll learn the basics of the new DMSP format and where to find online resources and policy guidance you can use in developing workshops and guides. You’ll get hands-on experience writing a mock DMSP and take away ideas on how to apply knowledge of discipline-specific metadata and repositories to customize DMSP training and consultations.
This course is an approved elective for the Level II Data Services Specialization.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Describe the role and structure of an NIH data management and sharing plan
- Explain to a researcher how to make a data management and sharing plan
- Apply existing subject expertise to teaching the NIH DMSP
- Apply knowledge of discipline-specific metadata and repositories to DMSP training and consultations
Audience
Medical librarians and other health information professionals who support researchers, or plan to. No experience with NIH DMSPs is needed. Basic familiarity with open science and data management terminology will be helpful.
Presenter
Nina Exner is the research data librarian at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU)–Richmond, serving core and medical researchers at VCU Libraries. She has over twenty years of library experience, including more than ten years in scholarly communications, data support, and researcher services. Nina is a member of the California Digital Library DMP Tool editorial board, and her scholarship ranges from practitioner research on data and the data lifecycle to more conceptual work on understanding librarians’ lives as researchers.
