Unit 11, Data Curation and Archiving
This unit will introduce you to the concepts, frameworks, and practices involved in preserving research data. As a Research Data Management Librarian, you will be able to use these skills to work with researchers, administrators, and other librarians. The unit provides an overview of data curation and archiving and introduces learners to the main standards and frameworks used in the curation and preservation communities. There will also be discussion on funder requirements for data curation and preservation across the federal government and foundation sector and the basics of digital repositories. The unit ends with an interview and exercise to bring data curation practice into the work environment of a research data management librarian.
By the end of this unit, you will be able to:
- Have an understanding of data curation and archiving, including the main standards and frameworks, along with digital repositories.
- Understand how to assist researchers with their data curation, archiving, and preservation needs.
- Be familiar with the main funder (e.g. federal government, foundation sector) requirements in regards to curation, preservation, and repositories.
