Unit 2, Navigating Research Culture

This unit introduces you to the types of research, researcher roles, research teams, and the offices supporting research enterprise that you may encounter as a Research Data Management Librarian. It presents common engagement models for Research Data Management Librarians partnering with researchers and the offices supporting research. This unit also presents the research data management (RDM) challenges faced by researchers working together as a team, the challenges faced by teams of researchers collaborating together, and the ways that Research Data Management Librarians can help offer solutions. Lastly, this unit’s content builds to explore the elements comprising research culture today and ways for Research Data Management Librarians to navigate this culture.

By the end of this unit, you will be able to:

  • Describe and differentiate among the partners comprising an institution’s research ecosystem.
  • Identify specific ways to navigate the culture and challenges of Team Science.
  • Identify ways that RDM Librarians can partner with members of the research ecosystem.
