Unit 8, Platform Tools
Welcome to an Overview of Platform Tools.
In this unit, we will take a look at some of the tools that you are likely to encounter as you support RDM activities on your campuses. We will also discuss some of the use cases that will lead you to interact with these various platforms.
As we think about research data management, and consider where this all fits within the research life cycle, interacting with data will require exposure to different tools at different stages of any research project. What are these stages, and how can we use online tools to help us as we work with our patrons and their research data management challenges?
The important tools and platforms we highlight here demonstrate where our earlier efforts and collaborations within the library’s RDM program have now segued into an online environment that has practical applications for data sharing, storage, discovery, reuse, and reproducibility.
By the end of this unit, you will be able to:
- Identify four options for data collaborative and sharing tools.
- Demonstrate use of one of the identified tools by uploading, controlling access, and describing the file(s) deposited.
- Identify and recommend the relevant platform tool, and associated funder based RDM requirements to satisfy the specific use case identified by a researcher’s particular scenario and objectives.
