    Hi Michael,
    I will not be able to attend the Fellows meeting this year. Assuming the ice has melted on the lakes in the Boundary Waters, you’ll find me there. Zoom won’t do me any good, either, unless the session is recorded for viewing later.

    Thanks for all you do for MLA and the Fellows.

    Dear Colleagues: I hope you are thriving. This note is to let you know that there will be an in-person Fellows Meeting in New Orleans.

    Date: May 4, 2022
    Time: 12:00 – 1:30

    Since we haven’t had an in-person meeting for 2 years we need your assistance to gauge the size of the meeting room needed and the number of refreshments to order. At your earliest convenience I would appreciate it if you would let me, or Mary Langman know if you will be able to attend the in-person meeting on May 4, 2022.

    A meeting agenda and the names of our new Fellows will follow. Warm regards — Michael

    My dear MLA colleagues. Thank you all for so eloquently expressing my own thoughts about Fred Roper and his importance to our profession and to so many of us individually. I will simply add my condolences to his loved ones and to those of you who were close to Fred.

    Dear Fellows;

    I am extremely sorry and saddened to share the news with you that Fred Roper has passed away. MLA HQ received the news earlier this morning and shared that his obituary, plans and other information is still being prepared.

    I will share that information with you when I receive it. In the meantime, here is a link to Fred’s Oral History so we can remember this fine gentleman:

    When I was a young librarian, Fred was encouraging and always made a point of greeting me warmly and inclusively. He was an excellent frolleague and a fine library leader. I just recently heard from him regarding this year’s meeting and how he would not be attending but wishing all of us well.

    A very sad day.

    Warm regards,

    M.J.
